How Our Experiences Shape Who We Are

How Our Experiences Shape Who We Are

How many times in your life have you met a grumpy clerk or an unfriendly shop assistant? How many times have your own days been filled with bitterness and bad moods? Have you ever wondered why some people smile so often while others rarely do?

I would like to explain how our experiences shape our lives, and how each of us is, in a sense, a “monkey” wandering from trance to trance without even knowing why. And most importantly, I want to show you how to finally change this.

To truly understand, we must look deeper—beyond our conscious mind—and recognize the power of our second mind, the one usually hidden from our awareness. Yes, we are talking about our subconscious, or if you prefer, the unconscious mind.

Every single day, from the moment we are born, we experience countless situations and moments. Sometimes we feel joy, sometimes sadness, sometimes fear, sometimes love. For some people, focusing on the negative becomes a habit, while others manage to find the light.

Our subconscious has an extraordinary ability to record almost everything we live through. It remembers details we consciously forget.

I recall a story of a grown man who could still repeat the phone number of a restaurant that had closed twenty years earlier—because as a child, his subconscious absorbed it while his parents ordered food, long before he even understood what numbers were.

Our conscious mind cannot normally recall such things—that’s the genius of the subconscious.

Our subconscious mind is both incredibly powerful and incredibly simple. Robert Smith, the founder of FasterEFT, calls it the “intelligent idiot.”

Why the Intelligent Idiot?

Because our subconscious is like a huge hard drive, storing nearly everything our senses capture. It does not decide whether an event is “good” or “bad”—it simply records. Imagine dropping a hard drive: it can be damaged, scratched, or lose data. What if, by using the right tools, you could also drop your own “hard drive” and let your problems disappear?

The subconscious does not filter experiences as good or bad. If it could, life would be easier. Instead, it records massive amounts of information daily—most of which we don’t even realize.

It saves both useful and useless data and then directs us based on it. Every step we took as children, every car ride we’ve driven, every repeated action—it’s all there. That’s why you can drive home “on autopilot,” lost in thought, and suddenly arrive without remembering the details of the trip.

This is incredibly useful. But what if we’ve been trained since childhood to see the world as hostile, full of arguments, disappointment, and pain?

The subconscious sorts and organizes everything so it can react automatically. For example, if you once were bitten by a dog, seeing a dog today might instantly trigger fear. Just the sight can throw you into a negative trance.

Our behavior and moods reflect what is stored inside us. If we have many positive experiences, we’re likely to smile and enjoy life. If we’ve been filled with pain, we may become anxious, stressed, or depressed.

In the personal development world, there’s debate about whether to “dig into the past.” Some methods suggest shifting your mood instantly without addressing old memories. In FasterEFT, however, we believe in transforming negative experiences into positive ones—because we were not born to suffer our whole lives.

That’s why we start with a peace list: writing down negative memories and changing them with the right tools anyone can learn.

But what about memories we don’t consciously recall? Often, when using FasterEFT techniques, forgotten memories suddenly resurface, guiding us toward real healing.

As we transform each negative memory into a positive one, the subconscious updates itself—and we gain more and more opportunities to feel good for no reason at all.

Would you like to learn how to feel good for no reason? To understand how your mind works and how to stop merely “surviving”—and instead live fully? To harness the power of your subconscious so it leads you to financial freedom, fulfilling relationships, a thriving career, and lasting health? Every one of us has this opportunity—the choice is ours.
